Israel's Strategic Challenges in the New Middle East

As part of an ever-changing region, Israel’s challenges, as well as their approach to meeting those challenges, must also rapidly evolve and develop.  The Honorable Roey Gilad, Consul General of Israel to the Midwest, will share his insights on how such a geopolitically significant country is confronting such a tumultuous political environment. This event is open to the public.

The Honorable Roey Gilad arrived in Chicago in the summer of 2012 to assume his post as Consul General of Israel to the Midwest. As Israel’s highest ranking official in the Midwest, Gilad is responsible for 11 states in the Midwest region including his base of Chicago. During his 25 year tenure with Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gilad has served in various positions outside of Israel including: Second Secretary in Kenya, Media Counselor in The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and head of the Political Affairs Department in the UK.  While in his native Israel, Gilad studied recently at Israel’s National Defense College and prior to that was head of the Export Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
